The Grace to You Broadcast Archive: Complete Guide
People search for this archive under two names. Some type 'grace to you sermon archive'; others just type 'gty sermon archive', because GTY is how the ministry brands itself on air. Both lead to the same place: the broadcast ministry of John MacArthur, which turned fifty-six years of preaching at Grace Community Church into a daily radio programme, a podcast, an app, and a library of more than 3,500 sermons that anyone can read in full for free. This page covers the broadcast side of that archive. Our main Grace to You sermon archive page covers the library itself in more depth.

What Is the Grace to You Broadcast Archive?
Grace to You began in 1969, the year John MacArthur became pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. It started as members duplicating cassettes for friends and grew into a tape ministry, then a daily radio broadcast carried on stations worldwide, then a podcast and an app. MacArthur preached verse by verse through the entire New Testament, completing that project in 2011, and remained in the same pulpit until his death in July 2025. GTY continues as the steward and distributor of the archive.
Two decisions made GTY unusual. In 2008 the ministry made its entire sermon library free to download, removing the price that most broadcast ministries still attach to back catalogue. And nearly every recording was paired with a complete, edited written transcript rather than a summary. That combination is why a MacArthur sermon is so much easier to search and quote than preaching of comparable volume that exists only as audio.
What's Inside the Archive
The broadcast archive and the sermon library are two views of one collection. The radio programme edits long expository messages into daily instalments; the library keeps the full-length originals, indexed by scripture.
- The daily Grace to You radio programme, carried on stations internationally and published as a podcast
- More than 3,500 full-length sermons spanning 1969 to 2025, nearly all preached at Grace Community Church
- A complete, edited transcript for essentially every message in the library, free to read and download
- Verse-by-verse coverage of the whole New Testament, finished in 2011, plus substantial Old Testament preaching
- Study guides, Q&A sessions and conference messages produced alongside the pulpit ministry
- The Grace to You mobile app and podcast feeds, which carry the same catalogue offline

Want a Transcript of a Sermon from This Archive?
You do not need to transcribe anything here. GTY already did it, for the whole library, and put it online free. Treat that as the benchmark: an archive with transcripts gets quoted accurately, found by search engines and used in study; an archive without them gets played once.
Where transcription helps is with everything GTY did not record for you, your own church's Sunday services, conference sessions, or interviews. Our free transcription tool turns audio you have rights to use into time-stamped, searchable text in minutes.
If you want to approach the library by passage rather than by date, our collection of John MacArthur sermons by scripture is organised that way, and our John MacArthur sermon notes page summarises how he constructs an expository message.
Transcribe sermon audio freeHow Grace to You Broadcast's Approach Can Inspire Your Church's Archive
GTY made two choices most ministries defer forever, and both are copyable at any size.
1.Transcribe everything, not the highlights
A partial transcript library means a searcher never knows whether a miss is a gap in the archive or a gap in the preaching. Complete coverage is what makes the collection trustworthy enough to cite.
2.Drop the price on the back catalogue
GTY made the library free in 2008 and its reach expanded rather than its income collapsing. Old sermons earn very little as products and a great deal as front doors.
3.One recording, three products
The same message became a radio instalment, a podcast episode and a library entry with text. Build the pipeline once and every future sermon rides it for free.
4.Index by passage so the archive becomes a commentary
Because MacArthur preached sequentially and GTY filed by scripture, the archive functions as a verse-indexed commentary. Consistent tagging turns a chronological pile into a reference work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is GTY?
GTY stands for Grace to You, the media and broadcast ministry of John MacArthur. It produces the daily Grace to You radio programme and maintains the free online archive of his preaching at gty.org. Many listeners know the ministry only by the three-letter on-air name, which is why 'gty sermon archive' and 'grace to you sermon archive' are searches for the same thing.
Are Grace to You sermons free?
Yes. Since 2008 the entire sermon library has been free to stream, download and read at gty.org, including the written transcripts. The ministry funds itself through donations and the sale of books and study materials rather than by charging for the preaching.
How many sermons has John MacArthur preached?
The Grace to You archive holds more than 3,500 sermons, covering his ministry at Grace Community Church from 1969 until his death in July 2025. That figure counts the recorded and catalogued messages; the true number preached across fifty-six years, including occasions never recorded, is higher.
Where can I download MacArthur sermon transcripts?
Directly from gty.org. Each sermon page carries a full, edited written transcript alongside the audio, free to read or download, with no account required. Very few sermon archives of this size offer complete text, which is the main reason MacArthur is quoted so precisely.
Is Grace to You still broadcasting after John MacArthur's death?
The ministry continues as the steward and distributor of the archive following his death in July 2025, and the broadcast draws on the recorded library. Check gty.org for the current programme schedule rather than assuming the arrangement is unchanged.
What is the difference between Grace to You and Grace Community Church?
Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California is the congregation where the sermons were preached. Grace to You is the separate media ministry that records, broadcasts, transcribes and distributes them. The church publishes its current services; GTY holds the historical archive.
