Four things we hear from volunteer media leads who tried it first.
One sermon a week at 45 minutes = $11.25 each, ~$540/year on Temi list pricing. The same volume on our Standard tier is ~$13/year. Even at our Premium tier you'd pay roughly 12× less. The per-minute model is the same; the price isn't.
Temi doesn't support Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, or any non-English language. For multi-ethnic congregations with even one Spanish or Korean service, Temi can't transcribe it. We run Whisper across 90+ languages with strong dialect coverage.
Temi is a general-purpose consumer tool. Scripture references stay spelled out ("John three sixteen"), Bible book names occasionally get autocorrected to common words ("Acts" becomes the verb), and theological vocabulary needs hand-cleanup every week. We bias toward sermon-specific behavior by default.
Temi marks speaker changes in the editor but doesn't produce a true diarized transcript with named speakers. For a Q&A night, panel sermon, or interview-style service, you re-label every speaker manually. Our Premium tier ($0.02/min) returns clean diarization out of the box.
Where Temi is fine, and where the price gap pays for itself in a month.
Volunteer media lead uploads Sunday night, posts to the church blog Monday morning for accessibility and SEO. No translation, no panel discussions, no podcast.
Temi
~$540/year list pricing. Works, but you're paying premium for a generic transcription tool that needs sermon cleanup.
Sermon Transcription
~$13/year. 41× cheaper. Scripture auto-formats. Custom glossary for preacher names. Whole budget difference funds your media team coffee.
Two Sunday services, one English and one Spanish, transcribed weekly for the website. Same media team handles both.
Temi
English only. Spanish service can't be transcribed at all. You'd need a second tool for Spanish, splitting workflow and billing.
Sermon Transcription
Both services in one tool. Whisper handles Spanish dialects accurately. Per-minute pricing across both. Custom glossary covers Spanish ministry terms.
Four campuses, weekly sermons, monthly Q&A panels, and an annual conference with 12 sessions across two days.
Temi
No true diarization. Q&A and panel transcripts need manual speaker labeling. Annual cost across all sessions: $2,000+ at list price.
Sermon Transcription
Premium tier with named diarization for panels and Q&A, Standard for solo sermons. Annual cost ~$80–$120 across all four campuses. Shared glossary.
Honest cases where switching isn't worth the friction.
If you already have a Temi account with prepaid credits and you transcribe one English sermon a month from clean studio audio, the friction of switching saves real but small dollars. Use up the credit balance, then revisit.
If you have multiple non-church use cases — journalist interviews, focus groups, voice memos for personal notes — and want a single transcription tool across all of them, Temi's general-purpose positioning is a defensible choice. We're sermon-tuned by design, so non-sermon audio still works on us but the brand is awkward.
If your church has a paid Rev.com subscription for human transcription and you use Temi as the AI fallback inside that ecosystem, consolidating into Rev's product is reasonable.
