Biography
Chuck Swindoll served in the Marine Corps before training at Dallas Theological Seminary, and pastored in Massachusetts, Texas, and for more than twenty years at First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, California. He founded Insight for Living in 1979; the broadcast has run continuously since and is carried worldwide. Swindoll served as president of Dallas Theological Seminary through the 1990s and later founded Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, where he continued preaching well into his eighties. His preaching is expository but conversational — he is unusually willing to name discouragement, failure, and difficulty in a pastor's own life, and much of his written work is aimed at grace, endurance, and recovering from collapse rather than at systematic instruction. His biographical series on figures like David, Joseph, Esther, Moses, and Paul are among the most widely used models for preaching a biblical character across consecutive weeks.
Legacy
Swindoll is one of the longest-serving voices in American Christian broadcasting, and his grace-centered emphasis reshaped how a generation of evangelical pastors talked about failure from the pulpit.
